Infante D. Luís Geophysical Institute (Instituto Geofísico do Infante D. Luís - IGIDL) is a public body integrated at the University of Lisbon.
IGIDL originated from the Infante D. Luís Meteorological Observatory established at the Polytechnic School in 1853. Located at the heart of the Botanic Garden, IGIDL includes laboratories of General Geophysics, Seismology, Meteorology, Climatology and Solar Radiation. IGIDL maintains the oldest meteorological series of Portugal. IGIDL also holds a library and documentation centre, where some of the most significant scientific journals are available.
The institute develops and cooperates in research initiatives with other scientific institutions. It also collaborates in teaching and research activities organized by the University of Lisbon. IGIDL also hosts technical and scientific scholarships and prepares for the general public and the authorities, information related with the meteorological and seismological phenomena.
