The University of Lisbon has a set of infrastructures and research centres that put this institution at the first plan on the national level.

- The Interdisciplinary Compound, it is a place for the concentration of research centres of excellence from the University of Lisbon. The Research Support Unit (Gabinete de Apoio à Investigação) is placed at the interdisciplinary complex.
- Three Associated Laboratories of recognized national importance in the fields of Health Sciences, Social Sciences and Earth and Space Sciences;
- More than fifty R&D Units, accredited by the Foundation for Science and Technology with the classifications of Very Good and Excellent; Three Institutes of relevance, in the fields of Bacteriology, Geophysics and Professional Orientation.
- The Museum Compound of the Politécnica, that includes the Natural History Museum (Bocage Museum, Botanical Garden and the Mineralogy and Geology Museum) and the Museum of Science, where it is conducted an important work of diffusion of culture and science.

In this Web portal we divulgate the research entities that are accredited by the Foundation for Science and Technology and that are also explicitly identified at the Statutes of the University of Lisbon. However, there are at the University of Lisbon, other research centres, institutes, laboratories and scientific associations. The following available information about the R&D Units is thematically organized by academic fields (health sciences, social sciences, of engineering and technology… etc.). The users can find general information about the main activities of these research centres, including their evaluation by the Foundation for Science and Technology, research projects and contacts.

The University of Lisbon is proud of its historical heritage in the area of science. Throughout the years, its teachers and researchers have given a very significant contribute to the production and diffusion of scientific knowledge.
