The Faculty of Pharmacy has its roots in the School of Pharmacy, annex to the Medical School of Lisbon, created by Passos Manuel in 1836. Pharmacy teaching was offered there until 1911. When the Universidade de Lisboa was created, in 1911, the School of Pharmacy continued annexed to the Faculty of medicine.
Finally, in 1921, the School of Pharmacy was upgraded to a Faculty, offering a degree program and doctoral programs. However, this Faculty did not last for long, and regressed to School of Pharmacy during the New State.
The Faculty was reinstalled in 1968, and its curriculum has been updated in 1978. Nowadays, the Pharmaceutical Sciences’ 2nd degree has 5 years duration, followed by a six-month internship.
