Students at the University of Lisbon may file a complaint, either by themselves or through a legal representative, against action or inaction on the part of the organs, services or agents of the University in relation to pedagogical, administrative or Social Unit issues, which they consider discriminatory, violent, offensive or abusive.
All complaints must be submitted in writing, and should include a description of all the facts allegedly violating the rights and interests of the plaintiff, as well as a detailed justification of the complaint. A report, listing any measures taken so far, will be sent to the plaintiff within a ten day period.
It is also the Ombudsperson’s responsibility to share any complaint-related information with both the Presidents of the Pedagogical board and the Student Union of the respective organic, unit for further appreciation on the matter. If appropriate, the manager of the Social Services Unit (SASUL) may also be notified.
The plaintiff and all the organs, agents and services listed in the complaint are guaranteed the right to present their case to the Ombudsperson in writing or in person.
The Ombudsperson, together with his staff, are bound to respect confidentiality in relation to information obtained during the course of proceedings.
